Position Summary

RSI is currently recruiting for a Technical Report Writer for the Defense-Related Uranium Mine (DRUM) team. The Technical Report Writer will produce mine-specific technical reports that document geospatial data, inventory results, environmental sampling, and evaluations of physical hazards and potential chemical and radiological risks to humans and the environment for thousands of DRUM sites. In addition, the Technical Report Writer drafts and/or updates DRUM programmatic documents such as Reports to Congress, work plans, program management plans, and annual and midyear progress reports. Technical Report Writers document data reporting protocols and support the training of field team members in data QAQC and reporting. This is a full-time exempt position located in Grand Junction, CO. The anticipated starting salary for this position is $58,000 – $65,000/year based on the minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will also be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: 

  • Perform quality control (QC) review of mine inventory and environmental sampling data.
  • Prepare, write, and edit mine-specific Verification & Validation reports for the DRUM Program.
  • Compile, write, and edit Risk Roll-up reports for the DRUM Program.
  • Perform technical tasks as requested by managers in support of organizational objectives.
  • Draft and/or update programmatic documents.
  • Document and archive data reporting protocols and any changes.
  • Exercises compliance with company and other policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in geology, mining, and reclamation.
  • Proficient in writing and reviewing technical reports and supporting documents. 
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient in GIS field mapping, data collection, and ArcGIS software.
  • Willingness to learn and work safely in a safety conscious work environment.
  • Perform technical tasks as requested by managers in support of organizational, contract, and program objectives.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice.
  • Must be willing and able to travel or be in the field approximately 10% or less of the time.

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Mining, Engineering, Land Management, Environmental Science, Technical Writing, or related field. 
  • 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in technical writing preferred.

Essential Physical Requirements 

Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs may be defined as sedentary when walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
