Maintenance Supervisor

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Supervise and coordinate the total maintenance functions of the Complex.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recommend, supervise and assist as necessary, the repair and maintenance of all utilities, production equipment, machinery, buildings and grounds, safety and fire prevention equipment.
  • Supervises, and may perform work involving repairing, moving, installing, erecting, altering or modifying machinery, equipment, plant systems, buildings and structures, facilities, etc.
  • Confer with Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Production Manager and Plant Manager on major overhaul or repair of production machinery, equipment and facilities.
  • Evaluate employee performance and work habits and provide regular informal feedback in addition to formal periodic performance reviews.  Initiate proper disciplinary actions for employees that are consistently poor performers or who violate prescribed work rules.
  • Develop, coordinate and maintain a proactive, preventive maintenance program using industry accepted concepts and technology.
  • Demonstrate leadership in maintaining the plant, facilities, equipment, and personnel in a state of compliance with current government regulations governing safety and health in the workplace.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of repair and replacement parts, components, equipment, tools and test equipment to adequately service the plant.
  • Engage and assist outside contractors on major projects where necessary.
  • Investigate and diagnose all major machinery and equipment failures and malfunctions, arrange for their repair, and maintain accurate manual or electronic logs for tracing cause and corrective action on individual equipment.
  • Supervise emergency and temporary repairs with respect to company standards and practices to minimize production delays.
  • Plan and schedule major repairs to avoid disrupting production commitments where possible.
  • Coordinate, participate, assist with, and administer company programs relating to cost reduction, methods improvement, quality control, wage administration, maintenance, employee training, and labor relations, safety and housekeeping, company rules, and discipline.
  • Provide adequate instructions, guidance, and maintain cost surveillance over operations procedures.
  • Plan, develop, and train personnel in lower skill classifications to upgrade skill and ability levels to meet future manpower needs.
  • Review departmental performance periodically with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and make recommendations to improve services through preventative maintenance programs, lubrication systems, improved repair facilities, etc.
  • Enforce safe work practices on the part of employees to maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Maintain an adequate and efficient workforce in accordance with skill requirements, work levels, schedules, man hours and training programs.
  • Initiate recommendations for promotions, demotions, and merit increases.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of reporting any problems or difficulties affecting the efficiency of the department.
  • Participate in employee relations procedures at the prescribed level, administer contract provisions and company policies governing employment to avoid breach of contract and maintain harmonious relations on the highest possible plane.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires five to seven years of progressive manufacturing Engineering, Shop Supervision, mechanical/hydraulic and electrical experience.

 

EXPERTISE:

  • Manage competing priorities to complete projects and lead change.
  • Engage all levels and functions of the organization via TPM to maximize the overall effectiveness of production equipment.
  • Efficient use of overtime with respect to department budget and business needs.
  • Analyze facilities and manufacturing capital equipment procurement to maximize benefit.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree with an Engineering/Technical experience preferred

 

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS:

  • Engineering and Production Associates
  • Facilities and manufacturing related capital procurement and service related vendors

LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:

  • This position is located in Madison, SD
  • Travel up to 5%
