Location 

2 vacancies in the following location:  Lakewood, CO

Duties

-Works with authors from the outset to strategize and create plans to develop documents, advising on writing guidelines, and proposing supplemental material.
-Independently interviews subject matter specialists and/or performs literature searches to collect, analyze, and rewrite material.
-Writes/rewrites and edits documents for clarity, consistency, adequacy, and compliance with Reclamation policy.
-Develops or modifies writing/editing guidelines.
-Functions as a team leader and/or member of interdisciplinary teams.
-Mentors lower-graded staff in technical writing and editing areas.
-Provides consulting, writing/editing, and reviewing services for Reclamation and external agencies on preparing and publishing documents.
-Performs assembly of digital documents.
-Serves as a technical expert in writing and editing.
-Attends project team meetings and participates in project management and team building, all of which may involve skillful and thoughtful communication.
-Provides overall coordination of technical writing/editing responsibilities and maintains working relationships with team leaders, team members, study managers, and project coordinators to ensure that all components of a document (maps, figures, photographs, tables, appendices, etc.) are complete and assembled correctly and within controllable time and funding constraints.
-Performs edits of text of technical manuals and reports such as comprehensive reviews and transmittal memorandums, appendices, congressional documents, and other documents.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

Specialized Experience:

To qualify at the GS-11: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-09 level in federal service having demonstrated experience that requires substantial subject-matter or technical expertise in the field of technical writing and editing of scientific and/or engineering technical reports and documents, analyses, standards, manuals, etc. Demonstrated ability working closely with clients and/or interdisciplinary teams in the fields of engineering or science. Advanced proficiency with document development, styling, formatting and conversion between Microsoft Word and Adobe software, adherence to accessibility compliance (e.g., Section 508), plain language and/or visual identity when presenting technical information. Experience leading teams and mentoring.

OR

Education:
You could otherwise qualify on the basis of education by having a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related.

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.

You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications requirement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
