Physical Scientist - OLEM

Summary

This position is in the Office of Land and Emergency Management (OLEM), Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation (OSRTI), Technology Innovation and Field Services Division (TIFSD), Environmental Response Team (ERT) (EAST/WEST). About: OLEM 

 

Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Serve as an environmental scientist in providing technical support on multi-media environmental emergencies for cleanup, removal, and remedial activities for multi-media oil and hazardous materials spills and incidents.
  • Provide advice and guidance in the areas of removal, remediation and oil spills sites/actions.
  • Use scientific instrumentation in the field to locate hazardous materials and to guide and augment multi-media extent of contamination investigations.
  • Interpret results of environmental investigations and prepare reports of each study, including discussions of new approaches, techniques, or technology used.
  • Determine the extent of contamination, degree of clean-up necessary, and restoration requirements during accidental or purposeful releases of hazardous waste and/or environmental emergencies.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.  NOTE:  Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to one of the duty stations stated in this announcement on a regular basis (location TBD after candidate selected).
