About the Position:

Under the direction of the Office Chief of Systems Development, a Supervising Transportation Engineer Electrical (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer, serves as a functional manager of the ITS & Electrical Engineering Services Branch.

Activities focus on leading the effort to formalize the use of technology-based and electrical solutions on the State Highway System (SHS). This position plays an important role in supporting and promoting the department's ability to utilize technology and transportation management systems (TMS) in a consistent manner to benefit all travelers by making the SHS safer, smarter, equitable, context sensitive, greener, and more efficient.

As the Branch Chief, the incumbent oversees a unit that is responsible for statewide specifications, policies, design standards, cost estimating, and quality control related to electrical systems and technologies on the SHS. The branch develops and maintains effective control of traffic control systems, highway lighting, proven safety counter measure technologies, and related electrical systems for use by Caltrans and potentially other local agencies. The branch works closely with project delivery functions and districts across the department to ensure efficient and collaborative delivery of Caltrans projects and resolves challenges and risks with planning, designing, and constructing projects or elements with electrical, electronics, and TMS aspects. The incumbent is expected to work closely with internal and external stakeholders and programs to research and develop innovative solutions and find avenues to sustainability incorporate new design techniques and transportation technology into Caltrans.
