Resource Family Approval Specialist

ChildNet Youth and Family Services, Inc. is currently recruiting for a Resource Family Approval (RFA) Specialist for our Relative Home Assessment Services program located in Long Beach, CA.

The ChildNet Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS) program provides home environment assessment to applicants to ensure that they meet required standards in all areas, which include but are not limited to home and grounds, outdoor activity space, storage requirements, fire clearance, and capacity. The Resource Family Approval Specialist is responsible for completing family assessments within the required time period and ensuring that families are prepared to provide appropriate care for a child. Due to the needs of clients in various locations throughout the county, work may be necessary on some evenings or weekends.

The Resource Family Approval (RFA) Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Attend and successfully complete the DCFS provided Relative Home Assessment Services Training.
  • Contact the applicant and initiate RHAS contract services within five calendar (5) days of RHAS referral.
  • Schedule and conduct assessment meetings and pre-certification appointments.
  • Schedule additional appointments and return to home of applicant as needed to complete all RHAS components.
  • Provide training for applicants and relative/NREFM resource families per RHAS contract.
  • Travel throughout the county to various locations, as needed, to direct or provide the delivery of RHAS contract services. Work may be necessary on some evenings or weekends, depending on the needs of clients.
  • Provide feedback and documentation of RHAS to the case-carrying DCFS CSW within 30 days following the referral.
  • Assist with the screening and tracking of all pre-certification requirements for relatives incompliance with RHAS contract.
  • Input and maintain all required home information in agency files and computer databases.
  • Maintain data logs and submit statistical reports as needed or requested.
  • Review and maintain RHAS client files.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to applicants throughout the assessment and approval process.
  • Work closely with other professionals to ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with RHAS contract requirements.
  • Transport clients when required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

The Resource Family Approval Specialist must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the social/human services field; OR
  • 32 units from an accredited college, university, or community college, with at least 16 units in social work, social sciences, humanities, public administration or public health; OR
  • Two (2) years full-time experience at a private or public agency providing social services to children and/or families.
  • Bilingual proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and fluent knowledge of Spanish is preferred.

All offers of employment with ChildNet Youth and Family Services, Inc. are contingent upon a post-offer, pre-hire medical clearance with an occupational physical, tuberculosis screening, and a negative drug test. A background clearance which consists of fingerprinting through the Dept. of Justice/FBI/Child Abuse Index Search is required. Underwriting requirements of this agency include keeping a valid California driver’s license, valid auto liability insurance on file, and maintaining a good driving record while employed.
