Technical Engineering Buyer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:        TECHNICAL ENGINEERING BUYER

 

Shift:               Salary

 

Location:        Chambersburg, PA

 

Department:  MATERIALS-Supply Chain

 

Reports To:   Supply Chain Manager

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in a Supply Chain or Engineering Related Major required
  • 5-6 years experience in one or more areas of planning, inventory, supply chain, purchasing, or engineering required with a proven track record

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Ability to read blueprints
  • General understanding of grades of steel, aluminum, cast iron, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point software applications
  • Knowledge of SAP or other MRP software applications
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers, vendors, visitors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task and organize various duties at the same time
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information at a 12th grade level
  • Ability to take initiatives to improve efficiencies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic global environment
  • Have excellent organizational, time management and project management skills
  • Ability to analyze data, be resourceful, and initiate proactive timely, well-thought-out decisions
  • Any other knowledge, skills or abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position 

 

Job Description:

  • Research external market information to identify potential sources and suppliers for Indirect Materials.
  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies, supplier performance reports, supplier ratings, and ensuring compliance
  • Track the supplier’s performance indicators, based on the Delivery performance report
  • Identify and generate cost reduction projects and achieve cost reduction targets set by the team
  • Work on Lead-time reductions, payment term improvements, logistic consolidations and other continuous improvement projects
  • Purchase materials and supplies required for production
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods 
  • Expedite deliveries when needed to meet production requirements
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Analyze market trends to determine the most competitive prices
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure better prices and terms
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies
  • Manage inventory levels and ensure adequate stock levels
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely delivery of goods and services
  • Update and maintain purchasing records and data
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and regulations
  • Coordinate imports of material from overseas suppliers
