Engineering Intern/Co-op

Hello Engineering Students/Graduates!

If climbing inside a refinery reactor, a hydrogen heater, or a reaction furnace sounds like a good time, then JT THORPE may be the right place for you!

At JT THROPE, we are engineers and contractors of refractory, fireproofing, insulation, scaffolding, and coatings. We build industrial plants (facilities) that fuel our nation with power, gas, steel, cement, biofuels, and a wide variety of crucial products. And we strive to do it better than anyone has done it before!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Safely navigate an industrial construction site under the supervision of an experienced field supervisor
  • Track construction progress
  • Interpret engineering drawings and provide assistance to craft in field
  • Assist in writing / revising procedures / drawings
  • Assist in material take offs and estimating
  • Support work with project management / engineering
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • An engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent or a currently enrolled student finishing their junior or senior year
  • Must be able to climb scaffold, wear proper safety protection, and work at heights of 200ft+
  • Must be able to work a minimum of six (6) days a week, ten (10) hour days
  • Must be able to pass drug/background requirements for access to customer site(s)
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card (TWIC® | Transportation Security Administration (tsa.gov))
  • Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Prior experience, including co-op or internship experience preferred, delivering highly successful projects with your fingerprints all over them - you are extremely proud of what you’ve accomplished
  • A high bar across the board - from your own contributions, to the people you work with, to the projects you work on
  • A “driver” personality - biased toward action - constantly pushing to be the best.
  • Ability to self-structure (independence is key to this job, and therefore organization, strong time management and multi-tasking is required)

This internship/co-op is paid between $22-$28/hr plus overtime and is eligible for $100 per diem based on distance from your home address to the project site. Based on performance and business demands, successful intern(s) may be offered a full-time position after completion of the internship or graduation.
