 Job Summary:
The resource program teacher is responsible for working with other educators to coordinate and adapt curriculum and instruction for students with IEPs in the Least Restrictive Environment.

Qualifications:

  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate in special education, with the demonstrated ability to co-teach secondary content areas
  • NCA/AdvancEd/Cognia accreditation standards met to teach special education
  • Federal standards met to be highly qualified in special education
  • Experience in successfully working cooperatively with colleagues
  • The training and skills to work with a diverse group of high-school students
  • Experience working with students with behavior needs
  • Experience creating and implementing behavior-support plans IEPs, and curriculum materials based on those IEPs
  • CPI trained

Responsibilities:

  • Highly skilled in organizational and interpersonal communications, particularly with high-school age students and parents, and in stressful, sometimes conflict-laden situations
  • Work effectively with at-risk students
  • Employ culturally responsive teaching strategies, restorative practices, and trauma-informed practices to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population
  • Work with colleagues to continue to implement, assess and meet our school-improvement goals
  • Work with colleagues effectively and cooperatively
  • Experience and willingness to lead extracurricular or athletic activities
  • Work cooperatively with other colleagues, such as special-education teachers, regular-education teachers and counselors, to serve as part of a team to support all students
  • Ensure compliance with laws requiring data driven decisions.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with families, colleagues, and administrators
  • Demonstrate strong attendance, work ethic, organizational skills, and classroom management skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Federal standards met to be highly qualified in a secondary content area
  • Experience making adaptations in the general education curriculum to meet the multiple needs of students who may exhibit behavior challenges
  • Experience in implementing a multi-tiered system of supports at the secondary level including co-teaching as well as other educational strategies and interventions
  • Use multiple teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of a variety of students
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with other colleagues, such as Special Education teacher, general education teachers and counselors, to serve as a part of a team of support to all students
  • Teacher Consultant eligible preferred
