Park Counter

Do you love working outdoors? Are you looking for a flexible, part-time job? Saint Paul Parks and Recreation is looking to hire up to 20 people as summer Park Counters. The position is temporary, part time work counting visitors at regional parks and trails from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Summer Park Counts are an annual process required by the Metropolitan Council in order to document visitation to our regional parks. 

No experience is necessary, and training will be provided. Work occurs in 2-hour shifts between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and staff are allowed and encouraged to take multiple shifts in a day. Both weekday and weekend shifts are available. Staff will have the opportunity to pick their own shifts via an online scheduling system.   

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Select shifts via online scheduling tool
  • Arrive to assigned Saint Paul regional park and trail locations at required time slot
  • Punch in and out via cell phone on online time clock
  • Ensure there is a clear view of the count area
  • Bring a cell phone, tablet, or paper tally sheet to keep track of count data
  • Conduct counts as directed and record the data
  • Submit tally data via online form after each count day

 Position Requirements:

At least 18 years old.  

Flexible availability and willingness to work on holidays (Labor Day weekend, July 4th and Memorial Day weekend) is required.  

Must be able to attend required virtual training (date/time/location to be determined). 

Must have reliable transportation to and from a variety of Saint Paul regional park and trail sites. Experienced bikers are encouraged to apply, as many shifts take place along bike trails. 

Must be able to communicate via e-mail and navigate online scheduling system, timecard, and reporting tools.

Temporary: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. This position is eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST). Other benefits are not provided.
