The U.S. Geological Survey’s Nevada Water Science Center (NVWSC; https://www.usgs.gov/centers/nevada-water-science-center) conducts basic collection of surface water, groundwater, and water quality data in and around the State of Nevada to advance our understanding of hydrology and water quality in relation to water resources and management activities. The Student Contractor will be mentored by USGS Hydrologic Technicians. 

 

The Student Contractor will assist in all aspects of the Center’s work in hydrologic networks including measuring discharge and performing maintenance at streamgages, monitoring groundwater levels, monitoring surface water quality, and maintaining precipitation gages. Key tasks may include (1) planning and executing fieldwork, (2) working in a laboratory setting, (3) organizing equipment and operations, and (4) data processing and analysis. 

 

The work schedule will usually be 20-40 hours per week, with periods of intermittent work.
