Restoration Designer (Landscape Architect)

RES is currently accepting applications for a Restoration Design Engineer to support large scale river and wetland restoration in Northern California and Southern Oregon. The position will work directly with the RES Klamath field office staff and can be based out of the RES San Francisco, Sacramento, or Klamath field office areas.

RES is leading a massive restoration effort integral to the largest dam removal and river renewal project in US history – a task vital to the future of several imperiled salmon populations on the West Coast. The Klamath River and its tributaries were once home to the third-largest salmon population in the West, but those numbers have crashed to an alarming level.  A major ecological restoration project will follow the removal of four aging dams that have cut off access to more than 400 stream miles of historical salmon and steelhead habitat. The world is watching, with major media outlets like the BBC and National Geographic already covering this critical project.

What your day-to-day might look like?

This position will work daily with the RES team working on restoration in the Klamath Basin. You will support the development of restoration design documents, so experience with concept level through the production of construction design plans and specifications will be needed. You will work with senior design staff to ensure restoration designs meet project goals and are compliant with regulatory and permit requirements.  You will contribute technical input for basis of design documents, model documentation, and compliance reports.

Expect to find yourself in the field to interact with and understand the places we restore.  Field efforts will include evaluating sites for restoration potential, collecting data for design, providing oversite as construction occurs, and monitoring restoration sites to evaluate success, therefore data collection and prior experience as a field crew leader will support your application. Drawing upon an interdisciplinary technical foundation, you will have a strong background in fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, and ecology.

You will also have the opportunity to develop and shape our design work on the West Coast.  You will be coordinating with the local design and implementation teams, collaborating with scientists, land acquisition specialists, regulatory experts, and senior design/engineering staff.

At RES you will be involved in all phases of a successful restoration projects including feasibility site visits, restoration and mitigation design plans, developing technical specifications, and directing construction personnel in the field. This also means that occasional travel around the West is expected to visit clients or project sites.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years' experience in a natural resources design field (such as but not limited to: landscape architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering)
• Knowledge of, and operational proficiency with, AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation; TR-55, HEC-RAS/HMS, XPSWMM and GIS
• Experience reviewing and summarizing geomorphic monitoring data and developing monitoring reports.

Pay Range: $90,000 to $130,000
