Wind and Band Conductor

Sias University is founded by an American, Dr Shawn Chen (see intro video), with a vision for a place in education where "East Meets West." Sias leadership arranges a welcome team of returning teachers who meet our new teachers at the airport, Sias hosts a new teacher orientation, a team of student interns serve our new teachers with getting settled in China (bank card, SIM card, going shopping, setting up online banking, teaching survival Chinese). Here’s an overview of the opportunity in an e-book form (download PDF).

School of Music is hiring a Wind Band Conductor.

The job responsibilities include:

1. Teaching 'Wind Symphony" courses

2. Leading rehearsals and conducting based on the School of Music's arrangement.

3. Practice and take students to competitions

 

Timeline [Estimated] for Fall New Hires
 

May 15 - Application Deadline for Fall Employment. Applications accepted between December and May.

  • Feb - May - Interviews and Job Offers. There are two interviews. The first interview provides the opportunity to share about your experiences and what motivates you to join Sias faculty, and to hear about various aspects of life at Sias and the process of joining the staff. The first interview will be with one of our international (probably American faculty). The second interview is with the department one would work in. The interviewer may ask questions about how one handles difficult students in the classroom or what experience one has with EFL students. The second interviewer will be a Chinese national.
     
  • June 1 - Email two recommendation letters for processing work visa (one letter emphasizing academic ability and the other emphasizing ability to serve, cross-cultural aptitude or to emphasize adaptability/heart of service leadership).
     
  • June 5 - Deadline to sign the employment offer letter.
     
  • July 1 - Deadline to send documents to Sias Visa staff (passport, authenticated diploma and medical clean bill of health paperwork).
     
  • July 1 - Deadline to email school a doctor's physical to testify of no contagious diseases.
     
  • July 1 - Those who do not have an English, TESOL, or Education degree need to complete a $200 online TESOL Certificate. It takes 1-3 weeks to complete.
     
  • Mid-August - Sias pays for plane tickets. Departure from an international airport. Domestic travel is not covered by Sias. Departure date range. Dates vary due to cost of travel.
     
  • Late-August - Teachers get settled at Sias University.
     
  • Chinese Classes and New Teacher Orientation.
     
  • All-Teacher Meetings.
     
  • Beginning of Sept - Fall Classes Begin!

Requirements to teach at Sias University:

Professional –

  • Minimum of Baccalaureate degree (Higher degrees preferred with additional compensation in salary)
  • 2 years of teaching experience or completion of 120+ hour TEFL certificate. Contact Us for more information.

  • Willingness to learn and develop teaching with excellence

Monetary Benefits

Salaries start from 7,500-12,000 RMB ($1,175-$1,875 USD) a month depending on degrees attained. Every year teachers get a raise and signing a 3-year contract after the first semester gives teachers a 16.7% raise.
