Post Doctorate RA – Photoelectron Spectroscopy of Gas-Phase Cluster
Overview
The Physical and Computational Sciences Directorate (PCSD) researchers lead major R&D efforts in experimental and theoretical interfacial chemistry, chemical analysis, high energy physics, interfacial catalysis, multifunctional materials, and integrated high-performance and data-intensive computing.
PCSD is PNNL’s primary steward for research supported by the Department of Energy’s Offices of Basic Energy Sciences, Advanced Scientific Computing Research, and Nuclear Physics, all within the Department of Energy's Office of Science.
Additionally, Directorate staff perform research and development for private industry and other government agencies, such as the Department of Defense and NASA. The Directorate's researchers are members of interdisciplinary teams tackling challenges of national importance that cut across all missions of the Department of Energy.
Responsibilities
As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Chemical Physics & Analysis group, you will join a talented, multi-investigator team to explore the molecular-level understanding of major chemical physics processes and condensed phase phenomena. You will be mentored by prominent researchers, including, Xuebin Wang and other Senior Investigators in the Chemical Physics & Analysis group, as you develop a line of experimental research, working to understand the detailed electronic structure and solvation dynamics of a variety of clusters and intermediates important to the interface and solution chemistries. You will also work to better understand fundamental properties of redox species, electron/photon-driven transformations, and collective hydrogen-bond effects.
What you will do:
- Work independently, take initiative, and work on team assignments.
- Lead manuscript development and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
- Interact, communicate, and problem solve with a diverse team of research staff within the Chemical Physics & Analysis group, EMSL, PSD and across PNNL.
- Present research at technical conferences and project/program review meetings.
- Participate in the development of research proposals.
- Train and mentor others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Physics, Physical Chemistry, Atomic and Molecular Physics or related field.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of/experience with gas phase ion spectroscopy and velocity-map imaging (VMI) spectroscopy.
- Experience with electron attachment ionization, ion-molecular reactions, time-of-flight & quadruple mass spectrometry, ion-trap, and laser spectroscopy.
- Proficiency in ultra-high vacuum system and maintenance of solid-state lasers.
- Experience with Ab initio electronic structure calculations.
- The ability to design and modify vacuum chambers.
