Music Director and Teacher

​​St. Mary Parish Music Director & Music Teacher St. Michael Catholic School – Full Time​ 

Reports To:  ​Director of Evangelization, Family Life, and Pastoral Planning​ and Principal, St. Michael Catholic School                

Summary: The Music Director will collaborate on a team directed by the Director of Evangelization to coordinate the music ministry program for St. Mary Parish.  Under leadership of the St. Michael Catholic School principal, the director will instruct our K-8 students in music and design and plan the music education curriculum at St. Michael Catholic School.  The director should demonstrate a willingness to partner with staff, faculty, students, and families, in promoting the Pastorate’s mission, vision, and goals.   

Essential Duties:  

Lead the music ministry at weekend liturgies (2 Sunday Masses) at St. Mary Parish, and coordinate music for holy days of obligation, weddings, funerals, and special occasions.  

The Music Director should be the primary accompanist at each Mass, unless a proficient student or resident instrumentalist is able to fill that role.  

Plan music for all Masses which is liturgically, musically, and pastorally appropriate. 

Develop and lead an adult choir and cantors. 

Develop and lead a children’s choir and cantors for St. Michael Catholic School Masses (3 Masses). 

Prepare lesson plans and conduct classroom music instruction for grades PreK-8 in an enthusiastic and age-appropriate manner. 

Demonstrate classroom management and facilitation skills. 

Direct and accompany regular music rehearsals  and hold additional rehearsals with specific individuals/groups as necessary. 

Reach out to and develop relationships with parents and parishioners, personally inviting them to participate. 

Maintain music ministry space (including the grand piano, pipe organ, and sound equipment) and school music and sound equipment. 

Be involved in pastorate and school events and activities as necessary; engaged member of a three parish pastorate staff.

Education/Experience:   

Must be a Catholic in good standing. 

Should hold a B.A. in Music or have equivalent professional experience and should be proficient in piano, organ, and vocal/choral music.   

Valid teaching certificate preferred.

Should have direct experience with leading music for Roman Catholic liturgies. 

The ideal candidate would have experience teaching elementary school. 

Experience working in a parish setting is ideal. 

Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Flocknote, and current technology is preferred.

Able to pass and maintain Diocesan child safety protocols
