JOB DESCRIPTION

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP) Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the Environmental Management mission at the lab. Qualified individuals must hold a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics from a minority serving institution.

The Hydrology Modeling MSIPP Postdoctoral Research Associate position is focused on leading, advancing, developing, and applying hydrologic modeling in a research and development environment to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions in support of the Savannah River National Laboratory Environmental and Legacy Management (ELM) mission. 

The researcher will model and analyze hydrology data in support of the Department of Energy Environmental Management directives. Work scope will include modeling hydrology changes and saltwater intrusion under future climate scenarios.  Additional work scope may include modeling contaminant movement with hydrological events, statistical analysis of hydrology and contaminant data, and artificial intelligence/machine learning applications with hydrology.  

Field of Study/Capabilities include but not limited to hydrology, geology, hydrogeology, oceanography, environmental sciences/engineering, computer science/programming/modeling and related science or engineering disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • PhD + 0-3 yrs in hydrology modeling or related science or engineering discipline
  • Individuals must have completed all requirements for their PhD by the start of employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate level government security clearance.
  • Hold a degree from a minority serving institution. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming experience with FORTRAN, C++, R and/or PYTHON
  • Statistical and data analysis
  • Modeling future climate scenarios
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with a diverse team of researchers.
  • Uses basic logic and common sense to arrive at solutions.
  • Develops partnerships with internal team members.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a variety of platforms.

The position will require interaction with professional colleagues outside and across the Laboratory.  Postdoctoral researchers are provided an exciting learning environment to develop into the next generation of professional scientists and engineers, explore the unknown, and make impactful discoveries. •   Have experience with one or more of the following relevant technical skillsets: hydrology, hydrologic modeling, numerical modeling, statistical modeling, data analysis.
