Supervisory Immigration Services Assistant (12281189-LOS-DE-24)

This position is located in Field Operations Directorate, District 43, Los Angeles CA Field Office in Los Angeles, CA.


As an Supervisory Immigration Services Assistant, you will provide technical and administrative support to subordinate staff to ensure compliance with USCIS procedures, policies and regulations.

Duties

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of a clerical support team in immigration records, adjudication, and mail operations for a USCIS field office.
  • Provide administrative supervision of clerical functions supporting customer service, preparing file records, contracting services as applicable, preliminary processing of case files, and maintaining data information in a variety of systems.
  • Provide facility management support for the mailroom by serving as an expert in mail operations.
  • Monitor and adjust daily work of subordinates to meet uncontrolled priorities and requirements from the field office and with other neighboring DHS components.

This position IS considered "essential" for purposes of reporting to work when the facility might otherwise be closed.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.

Qualifications

EPISODIC TELEWORK MAY BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN EMERGENCY PLANNING AND RESPONSE ACTIVITIES.

This announcement is issued under the Direct Hire Authority to recruit for positions for which the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, has a critical hiring need. GS-09: You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:

  • Handling sensitive and/or personally identifiable information for office file movements.
  • Maintaining data information in office systems such as in databases to support processing and/or tracking time-sensitive files.
  • Securely processing incoming or outgoing mail.
