Technology Specialist

Position Overview

The Technology Specialist reports to the Stanford Online High School (OHS) Tech Team and focuses on tech-related issues during Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies (SPCS) Programs and Summer @ Stanford. The Technology Specialist primarily provides in-person support Monday - Friday and provides backup help to the Tech team for virtual events during summer programs. Evening and weekend work is expected during major residential program events that require technology support.

The Technology Specialist will benefit from having a two day in-person onboarding plan in addition to approximately 5-10 hours of virtual asynchronous work. This plan would cover pre-program meetings, trainings, and necessary administrative work to be completed before the arrival of participants in residence.

Position Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support on scheduled arrival days to assist participants in connecting with WiFi, accessing Stanford’s network, etc. during the Summer Humanities Institute, Stanford University Mathematics Camp, Summer @ Stanford High School, and Summer @ Stanford Middle School programs.
  • Assisting with technical support on scheduled departure days and ensuring post-program survey laptops are set up and the form remains properly set up on the computer.
  • Supporting Stanford faculty, instructors, and Graduate Teaching Assistants with any technology needs in their classrooms, including verifying audio and visuals in each room work before the start of the session and responding in the moment to any technical issues during class.
  • Collaborating with the OHS Tech Team to configure loaner laptops, and track loaner computers provided to participants, and ensuring all devices and cables are properly returned at the end of the session.
  • Distributing and collecting staff computers and phones, ensuring that all devices are operational at the start of the summer and functioning at the end of the summer.
  • Providing technical support for participants and staff during the program with minor issues and supporting the OHS Tech Team with any relevant tech tickets during the summer.
  • Collaborating with the SPCS or OHS Finance team to ensure staff have the correct Cardinal Print permissions; collaborating with Finance team to provide access when needed.
  • Tracking use of electronic equipment during session such as DVD players, HDMI adapters, etc., keeping a clear record of who has which item, and ensuring that it is returned at the end of the session.
  • Coordinating with the OHS Tech Team to pick up replacement equipment or devices during session on behalf of participants, staff, or instructors, including but not limited to traveling between Stanford Historic Campus and Stanford Redwood City Campus.
  • Supporting various Summer Institutes online events, such as the talent show or Commencement and assisting with technical issues or troubleshooting.
  • Fostering and promoting an inclusive environment for all participants, staff, and SPCS/Stanford OHS community members.
  • Ensuring that participants and staff adhere to all applicable policies at all times, including the Administrative Guide Memo, program policies, the SPCS Code of Conduct, and the Protection of Minors policy.
  • Being a good steward of program resources, including ensuring that all supplies are properly stored and returned at the end of the program.
  • Transporting participants and/or other staff to various locations within the Stanford University campus via program-rented automobiles or golf carts.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Experience with, and interest in, technical support and technology-related issues (Experience providing technical support in an educational setting preferred).
  • College-level coursework (Academic background in Computer Science or Engineering related field preferred).
  • Creative and positive attitude, including an enthusiasm for working with high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive tasks with multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to act responsibly, supervise others, build teams, enforce policies, solve problems, make good decisions, and mediate conflict.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license; and eligibility to drive program rented vans (must be at least 21 years old).

Additionally, you will preferably bring:

  • Summer camp/program experience or experience working with students ages 12-17, preferably with Stanford Online High School, Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies, or a similar program.

Compensation

The compensation for the Technology Specialist is $27.75 per hour. Hourly pay is taxable income. This position is temporary and non-exempt, averaging 20 hours per week. Some night and weekend work is expected. This position will primarily be working onsite. The Technology Specialist will be responsible for securing their own housing off campus for the duration of this position.
