Getting accepted as a Kellogg Future Leader secures your place in our MBA program before you graduate. Then, we'll hold your spot for two to five years while you gain full-time work experience in the professional world. Once you're ready to step back on campus, you'll be fully integrated into one of our top-tier MBA programs. Another perk? As a part of your deferred enrollment, you’ll have access to premiere Kellogg resources and receive support from a dedicated admissions officer. Best of all, there is no application fee.

Quick Facts

  • Purpose: Gain full-time work experience with the comfort of knowing you have a secured spot in a future MBA class, whenever you are ready for it 
  • Eligibility: Students who graduate between October 2023 and September 2024 can apply this year. All majors welcome, including Master's students who went directly into a graduate program from undergrad.
  • Location: Evanston, IL - Northwestern University campus. Right outside of Chicago.

Application Requirements

  • Undergraduate academic record | GPA + transcript(s)
  • 1 page resume (PDF)
  • 1 Recommendation
  • Two short essays
  • 3 short (1 min) video essays
  • GMAT/GRE Test Score*  
  • Job Plan: What do you plan to do during your deferment period?

                    *GMAT/GRE score requirement is waived for Northwestern undergraduates.

How It Works: Apply during your final-year of undergraduate studies (or Master's studies) and pay a $500 admissions deposit to secure your spot in the program. You then enter a 2-5 year deferment period, in which you are working full-time at a job of your choice. Every year of your deferment period, you pay a $500 deposit that maintains your spot in the program - which is then contributed to your tuition upon matriculation. Once a year, you will have a check-in meeting with an admissions officer to discuss your job and matriculation timeline. Once you're ready to matriculate, we initiate the process and you're in!
