Field Research Assistant

The Regulatory Science Organization at Bayer is hiring summer Research Assistants who will be stationed at the Monmouth, IL research facility to support the submission and registration of our biotech traits pipeline. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Field Testing Lead and provide support for data collection, tissue sampling, small plot spray applications, pollinations, compliance auditing, and plot maintenance for corn and soybeans. We are looking for skills including agronomic experience, attention to detail that enables the conduct of high quality experiments per required protocols, and commitment to following strict data collection parameters. The Research Assistant must be an effective communicator and will work closely with teams from different organizations within Bayer at the applicable facility.

Responsibilities may include:

·        Support planting activities

·        Assist in small plot spray applications: Illinois Pesticide Operator license or ability to obtain is required

·        Provide support in corn pollinations

·        Help in collecting tissue samples from corn and soybeans

·        Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more at multiple sampling events throughout the field season

·        Drive to previous field sites to help with compliance volunteer monitoring audits: valid driver's license required

·        QC review of data collected from field experiments

·        Help with day-to-day activities directed by the Field Testing Lead

·        Some overnight travel may be required for training or participating in compliance audits

o  If required, a vehicle will be provided and other travel expenses will be paid

We are ideally looking for individuals pursuing degrees in agriculture or another related science with an interest in agriculture or plant science or those looking to be active the agricultural industry. The Research Assistant will be supervised by the local Field Testing Lead.
