Intern, Data Science

The Opportunity

Denali is seeking a motivated candidate for an internship position in the Data Science team to generate R packages that will help standardize output formats, generate standard reports and develop a results portal or shiny app that could interactively browse through the tables, listings and figures within a given study milestone. The intern will be encouraged to leverage their skills and interests to develop solutions for table standardization (title formatting, footnote formatting, and table layout/design), figure standardization (formatting figure and axis titles, adjusting axis scales, standard styling), and/or standardizing output generation (.pdf format, .pptx formatting, .html formatting, and .rtf outputs).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement R packages aimed at standardizing output for tables, listings, and figures
  • Enable output generation in various formats including .pdf, .pptx, .html, and .rtf
  • Ensure that the R packages are modular, efficient, and adhere to best coding practices
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance checks to identify and address any issues related to output standardization and interactive features
  • Document the functionality and usage of developed R packages
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, statisticians, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates and address any feedback received
  • Collaborate in the development of a results portal or Shiny app to interactively browse through tables, listings, and figures within a given study milestone

Requirements

  • Currently a rising-junior, rising-senior or enrolled in a master’s program in a relevant field such as Mathematics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, or other Computational Sciences/Life Sciences
  • Self- and results-driven, organized, resourceful, adaptable and collaborative
  • Bold and creative thinker with a curious nature, eager to learn about the complexities of the business of healthcare and biotech
  • Evident communication and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in data science programming languages such as R or python
  • Familiarity with data manipulation packages such as dplyr and tidyr
  • Familiarity with data visualization packages such as ggplot2
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think critically about data and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, especially when working on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

Beneficial Skills

  • Familiarity with R package development
  • Familiarity with git or other similar version control software
  • Experience with developing unit tests
  • Experience with table generation packages such as gt, flextable or reactable
  • Knowledge of the pharmaverse
  • High-level knowledge of CDISC standards

The expected wage for this position based on the South San Francisco California office location is $20.96 per hour for BA/BS and $25.87 per hour for MS.  Paid holiday time off is based on Denali's designated holidays.  Interns who live more than 50 miles away from the office are eligible for an additional housing stipend.
