Electrical Controls Engineer

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager; the Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for the planning, designing, programming, testing, and start up commissioning of automated systems throughout several manufacturing industries.

  • Operate in a team environment to help meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Participate in project reviews completing all necessary project management documents to help ensure projects complete on time and on budget consistent with customers’ expectations
  • Research and stay current with best available technologies related to automation
  • Design and create electrical machine schematics and panel layouts for automated systems with the integration of robotics 
  • Specify electrical components for procurement and/or direct modification of products working with vendors to ensure conformance with engineering design and safety
  • Programming of HMI’s, PLC’s, motion controls, and vision systems
  • Testing and debugging of automated systems prior to customer run-off for factory acceptance and commissioning onsite at customers facility for final site acceptance
  • Provide necessary electrical controls training of automated systems to customer personnel 
  • Provide accurate electrical controls documentation of automated systems
  • Support customers automation systems both remotely and onsite if needed
  • Help identify and cultivate new sales opportunities by building relationships with existing, new, and potential customers/vendors
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Highly motivated team player
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent communication and project management skills 
  • Able to read electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machine schematics
  • Obtains Allen Bradley PLC and HMI knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of 2D software design tools to assist in the development and design of automation systems
    • AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Rockwell Studio 5000
  • Able to translate automation conceptual designs into functional equipment
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office products
  • Able to think analytically and creatively while keeping safety and cost in mind 
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills
  • Able to operate on own initiative with minimal supervision, but also contribute as a team member working within the Electrical Engineering team and other cross functional teams including Sales, Mechanical Engineering, and shop floor Electro-Mechanical Assemblers 
  • SAP, Solidworks, Octopuz, and Fanuc robot software knowledge and experience is a plus!
