Project Estimator/Detailer

The position of Project Estimator/Detailer-ADIP is an integral role to AMERICAN's enhanced focus on project management and customer service. This position uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to complete drafting assignments and create detailed schematics that are utilized in the manufacturing of products. Develops estimates of materials needed to complete various projects.

  • Estimating responsibilities include: Performs timely take-offs from engineer's contract drawings and specification to develop piping quotations. Uses CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) and similar software tools to draft materials estimates to support Sales in securing orders from customers.
  • Makes accurate quotations of AMERICAN material from engineering plans and specifications to provide timely and complete proposals that meet stringent customer requirements.
  • Detailing responsibilities include: Performs design and/or drafting functions from engineer's contract drawings and specifications using specialized CAD software to prepare layouts and/or detailed drawings which establishes bills of material for manufacturing/production purposes.
  • Analyzes and interprets engineering specifications as they pertain to AMERICAN products.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of subject matter and understanding of AMERICAN product lines.
  • Produces detailed drawings of how the product will be produced and installed for the customer.
  • Prepares bill of materials for product implementation into production.
  • General Responsibilities: Provides the highest quality customer service and project management possible for AMERICAN. Assists Project Coordinators/Managers/Engineers, Sales Engineers, and
  • management in the resolution of all customer drawing, technical, quotation, and project issues.
  • Takes project from concept to production release. Performs maintenance of CAD files in response to customer and/or engineering changes.
  • Interfaces with managers and engineers to verify that data pertaining to product specifications is documented accurately. Assists managers and engineers with hands on troubleshooting from customers and production.
  • Follows technical specifications, internal processes and procedures, and unique manufacturing requirements in consultation with managers and engineers on quotation, design and drafting requirements.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly. Knows safety rules that apply to the safety of others and to personal safety. Reports malfunction of equipment to proper authority. Performs other work as instructed by supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must exhibit ability to understand technical information.

  • Must exhibit the ability to work while under stress.
  • Must exhibit good attention to detail.
  • Must have substantial prior work experience in drafting or an associate degree in drafting from an accredited school. (Samples of work required and skills must be demonstrated.)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accurately work basic math, geometry and trigonometry problems.
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must exhibit the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties.
  • Must exhibit a high degree of professional flexibility, especially in work hours, as well as adaptability to the evolving Customer Service function and rush demands of customers.
  • Must demonstrate ability to be resourceful in answering customer needs with AMERICAN products and applications.
  • Must be willing to travel, on a limited basis, for customer relationship building.
  • Must exhibit prior experience or training with computer software such as CAD or other relevant software.
  • Must be willing and able to work extra hours on weekdays, weekends, or holidays as required to fulfill job duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous drafting experience in the mechanical field, such as piping, equipment, and pressure vessels.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts.
  • Experience in the water and/or wastewater industry is preferred.
  • Prior experience or training in customer service and project management.
  • Associates degree or college courses completed in engineering, math, science, business, and/or project/construction management.
  • Knowledge of AMERICAN products and their application.
