Performance Engineer

Rewarding opportunities await you on Lenovo's ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group) Server Performance team - come join this global performance engineering team. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent college graduate to hone their engineering skills and learn more about how x86 (Intel and AMD) server hardware is developed along with how to measure the performance of the server and it’s subsystems components e.g. CPUs (processors), Memory, networking and storage. 

Learn first-hand about the latest performance benchmarking tools and hardware tuning methodology / techniques - measuring and validating performance against supplier’s specifications, while working alongside some of the most talented engineers developing the next generation server products. Lenovo’s Global Performance team hold more World Record x86 Server benchmarks than any other x86 server manufacturer worldwide.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to work onsite from the Morrisville, NC office 3 days per week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with debug - debug involving hardware, firmware/bios or software - which is key to tuning the server for optimal performance
  • Have desire and willingness to learn and apply lessons learned - in order to get the most out of your opportunity
  • Willing to work cooperatively with member of the performance team and broader Lenovo team - will position you to learn valuable insights into server hardware development
  • Have some knowledge of Linux-based OSs i.e. RedHat, Suse, Ubunto, and CentOS - knowledge that will enable you to quickly measure, validate and execute benchmark on the server hardware
  • Have some experience scripting via programming language such as shell script. Python, and others - experience with scripting allows you to automate measurements and validation activities 
  • Experience or have the ability to swap hardware components i.e. CPUs, Memory, Drives, … etc. - mechanical experience with electronics components is a plus, component are often swapped to compare results
