Associate Payroll Specialist

Location: On Site in Syracuse, NY (HQ)

Role Summary:

The Associate Payroll Specialist will process and assist in the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. In addition to payroll, you will serve as a primary contact for plan vendors, continually investigate new benefit programs, and assist in negotiating best plans, options, and rates.

Salary Range: $60k - $75k (Based on experience)

About the Position:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Partner with the Accounting department and other departments as necessary and serve as a key member of the team in leading the activities relating to the company benefits.
  • Work closely with the accounting team on quarterly and year end audits (Payroll, Workers Compensation, 401(k), etc.)
  • Perform benefit analysis of key segments of information and provide recommendations on plan of action.
  • Assist in the administration of all employee benefit programs including enrollments and terminations.
  • Plans, conducts, and reports results of audits to ensure all enrollments are accurate and that information is correct for each employee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with HRIS and payroll software.

  • Must be fully vaccinated: 2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson, 2 weeks prior or more
