Undergraduate Information Technology Internship (Associate in Information Technology - Levels I - IV) - 2023-6809

Overview

Responsibilities

THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.

 

Undergraduate Information Technology (IT) Interns will work under the direct supervision of a manager & mentor and will be provided with hands-on participation in ongoing projects at one of the most unique experimental sites in the United States. 

 

Internships are available at the following locations:

  • North Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Nevada National Security Site (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada)
  • Los Alamos and Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Livermore and Santa Barbara, California
  • Remote Sensing Laboratories at Nellis Air Force Base (Las Vegas, Nevada) or Andrews Air Force Base (Joint Base Andrews, Maryland)

 

We are looking for qualified and motivated Undergrad students that are pursuing a degree in:

  • Computer Science
  • Information Systems & Management Information Systems (MIS)
  • Information Technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Information Science
  • Informatics

Duties and Responsibilities (may include and will vary depending on which department you are assigned to):

  • Provide level I support and troubleshooting for hardware, software, and/or network issues.
  • Assist with installing and upgrading hardware and software.
  • Interface with clients via Chat, Phone, Walk-in.
  • Perform client call backs.
  • Create and update Incident Tickets.
  • Draft and edit Knowledge Articles.

  • May 21st, 2024 - Summer internship Student Program begins
  • August 9th, 2024 - Summer internship Student Program concludes

Qualifications

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

  • Completion of the first year in a related degree program at an accredited institution. The declared degree must pertain to the department to which the student will be assigned. 
  • Must be actively enrolled in school.
  • Must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. (upload of current transcripts required)
  • Must have:
    • Planning/organizing skills and initiative
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to follow directions, both written and verbal, and work independently to meet deadlines and commitments as well as part of a team.
    • Team player with good customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office and computer programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Experience installing hardware and software for personal computing needs preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills desired.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a professional, effective manner.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

 

Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’

Hourly range for this position is $15.00 - $22.46.

 

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
