The UC Master Gardener Program is a public service and outreach statewide program, a part of the UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR). Across a network of 53 counties and 6,200 volunteers, the UC Master Gardener Program extends UC research-based information about horticulture, gardening, and pest management to the public. The program recruits, trains, and supports volunteers who work in tandem with their county-based UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) office to extend sustainable gardening information into their local communities and alongside community partnerships.

The Communications Specialist, under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Impact & Communication, plays a crucial role in coordinating and overseeing internal and external communications strategies for the UC Master Gardener Program. In addition to providing expert advice and formulating strategies, this position will focus on project management of websites, blogs, and social media platforms.

The Communications Specialist will ensure that the content produced aligns with our mission and effectively supports programming efforts statewide. Collaborating with the statewide team's training and evaluation members, ANR's strategic communications team, academics, and community partners, you will spearhead the creation of high-quality materials, videos, and communication resources. This position plays a critical role in the collection, compilation, and development of stories that effectively communicate the impact and value of the UC Master Gardener Program. Furthermore, as a support for local program communication efforts, you will provide training and best practices to enhance marketing initiatives and build program awareness. This multifaceted role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the UC Master Gardener Program statewide. The working title for this position is ‘Statewide Marketing & Communications Coordinator'.

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Pay Scale: $68,400.00/year to $96,200.00/year

This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
