About Turtle Up

Mission:
Turtle Up aims to sustainably preserve and conserve Ghana’s sea turtles by embracing a community-based approach.
Background:
Solidarity reminds us that our resource consumption has impacts around the globe. Sea turtles are the oldest creatures on the planet, and they have been helping the environment for over 120 million years by:
·     Maintaining the ecological balance in the ocean.
·     Supporting the growth and propagation of seagrasses.
·     Nourishing beaches with nutrients by laying their eggs.
·     Promoting fish stocks by feeding in jellyfish.
·     Promoting healthy coral reef ecosystems.

Sea Turtles face numerous threats such as plastic pollution, global warming, poachers, land erosion, and shore development. All seven species of sea turtles are threatened by extinction globally and conserving and preserving sea turtles plays a major role in creating a healthy environment on land and in the ocean. We plan to:
1-   Preserve and protect Ghana’s sea turtles – which are threatened in Ghana and around the world. Ghana provides vital habitat for at least three species of sea turtle, all of which are in decline globally.
2-   Utilize ecotourism to promote economic development in an area where people are living to survive - not flourish, - and locals are accustomed to subsistence living, living one day at a time. Turtle Up is committed to donate all its profits to the community so that citizens can build the infrastructures that they need.
