Rural Broadband Technical Assistance Specialist

Overview
Lightning-fast broadband service is essential for remote work, telehealth, economic development, energy equity, and the revitalization of rural communities. The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) is recruiting a Rural Broadband Community Organizer & Technical Assistance Specialist. The Specialist will serve as an organizer, advocate, and facilitator of efforts in support of the state's Communications Union Districts to connect all Vermonters to reliable, symmetrical broadband to meet needs now and for the next generation. Communications Union Districts are public organizations governed by volunteers organized around the dual purpose of solving Vermont's connectivity issues and provide public oversight of telecommunications companies operating in the 208 towns currently members of a District.
 
The Specialist will provide technical assistance and management consulting for Vermont's Communication Union Districts. This will include coordinating training, providing strategic community organizing advice, seeking consensus on policy issues among all Communications Union Districts, pursuing efforts at joint purchase and financing, identifying stakeholders, facilitating meetings, and assisting in the development of grant applications, among other tasks. The Specialist will also assist with policy development, strategic planning, media outreach, and other tasks as required.
 
A successful applicant will be a mission driven team player and have experience in grassroots community organizing, rural economic development, and advocacy.
 
This is a limited service position funded through 6/30/2023 with anticipated continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in community organizing, public administration, community development or related field AND four (4) or more years of experience in project management, community development or organizing, economic development or related field. 
OR
Six (6) or more years of experience in project management, community development or organizing, economic development or related field.
