Hispanic Services Coordinator - Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Woodburn, Oregon - MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility
 
The OYA is hiring a permanent, full-time Hispanic Services Coordinator. The Hispanic Services Coordinator will coordinate and deliver services to Hispanic youth and their families in English and Spanish and assure culturally sensitive service delivery by others. This position is responsible for providing training and consultation to agency staff, networking with the community regarding Hispanic and other minority youth concerns.
 
To help ensure youth receive culturally appropriate services, OYA’s Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) works with youth, their families, staff, contractors, and volunteers to develop and deliver a range of programs. OIIR also provides interpretation and translation assistance to youth and families, supports youth empowerment programs, and coordinates speakers, educational presentations, and special events at OYA’s close-custody facilities to celebrate diversity and raise cross-cultural awareness.

A Day In The Life:
  • Ensure diverse representation in projects and decisions and work together to create safe environments for those represented to meaningfully engaged
  • Monitor and work toward equitable outcomes for your program area.
  • Provide supervision to youth during individual, group, family meetings, and activities, in close custody facilities and community settings for youth on parole or probation.
  • Work collaboratively with OllR and other OYA staff to deliver services to youth including cultural support groups, cultural education, and activities to support youth, families, and OYA staff.
  • Identify limited English-speaking youth and families and assists them in understanding MacLaren and OYA Services, programs, and expectations.
  • Provide translation services as needed for Hispanic/minority youth and families in communication with MacLaren staff, school staff, and community social service agencies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Hispanic cultural events (not limited to: Hispanic Heritage Month, Multicultural, Cinco De Mayo, Our Lady Guadalupe, Day of the Dead,) and co-facilitate (Native American Solstice, Luau, Black History, LGBTQ National Coming Out Day, API Celebration)
  • Network with Hispanic/minority community to provide educational, cultural, and inspirational events for youth and staff at MacLaren.
  • Keep Oregon Hispanic/minority community informed about MacLaren programs/services.
  • Seek consultations/advice from Oregon Hispanic/minority community for MacLaren programs/services.
  • Assists the Tattoo Removal Program Coordinator facilitate/explains/provides Spanish translation between youth, staff, and physicians. Also assists with youth supervision as needed.
  • Records youth attendance in individual, group, and/or family cultural activities, including the subject of activity and notes about specific youth participation.

  • Staff may have potential exposure to communicable diseases. The consistent and effective use of appropriate infection-control materials and techniques is required.
  • Staff is expected to be a positive example and role model for the other staff and youth. The staff is to be supportive toward OYA, MacLaren, their policies and procedures. Being a positive role model includes, but is not limited to no excessive absenteeism, personal appearance is neat, treats all human beings with respect, is a law-abiding citizen.
  • Each employee is to provide a positive, affirming environment which values fellow employees and the people they serve.
  • Will adhere to OYA Policy Memo II-D-3.4 regarding interpersonal relationships with youth.

What We Are Looking For:
  • a bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or a related field with major courses in a behavioral science and one year of professional Juvenile Counseling experience in a correctional facility setting.
Three years of experience providing professional counseling services directly to clientele or having direct client or inmate contact in a social service/rehabilitative setting may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
NOTE: Professional counseling experience must include providing supportive counseling to clients on a one-to-one basis with full responsibility for monitoring each case plan.
To receive credit for a degree or coursework in a related field, you must submit a photocopy of your transcripts.

Special Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English): This position is bilingual and requires duties to be done in both Spanish and English.
  • Driver’s License: Driving/travel is an essential function of the position. You must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

  • Passion for and deep understanding of the Hispanic/Latinx community demonstrated by knowledge of history, customs, culture, and current issues.
  • Experience working with Hispanic/Latinx Community in Woodburn and/or other parts of Oregon.
