Build your hands-on preservation trades skills at First State National Historical Park and George Washington Birthplace National Monument through projects addressing a range of preservation needs. Crew members will have the opportunity to develop their skills in several preservation trades, including window restoration, carpentry, roofing, masonry, and preservation maintenance. The ideal candidate is excited about hands-on trades work and should be able to demonstrate or discuss their interest in the preservation field. Crew members must be able to commit to the position from June 13 – December 16, with weekends and federal holidays off. The crew will spend 12 weeks at First State National Historical Park in New Castle Delaware and 15 weeks at George Washington Birthplace National Monument in Colonial Beach, VA.

  • Stucco repair and application
  • Repointing and masonry repair
  • Window restoration
  • Door restoration and frame fabrication
  • Roof repair
  • Cedar shingle installation
  • Painting techniques
  • General preservation maintenance
Position Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Interest in historic preservation 
  • Age restrictions: 18 - 30 (or 35 for Veterans)
  • Must be able to commit to project dates: June 13 – December 16, 2022
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and walk up to 1 mile
  • Interest in using hand and power tools to complete projects
