Relief Auxiliary Operator - Mooreland Power Plant

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Relief Auxiliary Operator is responsible for assisting in all phases of plant operation. Incumbent monitors and operates all auxiliary equipment. Incumbent is called upon to fill in on various shifts as required due to absences or work schedule changes. When necessary, the incumbent may perform plant lab or maintenance activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following: other duties may be assigned. Responsible for monitoring and recording hourly readings for all auxiliary equipment, and if necessary, takes corrective action to ensure safe and reliable operation. Operates auxiliary equipment during startup, normal conditions, and shutdowns under the direction of the Shift Supervisor in a safe and reliable manner. Operates demineralizers, water filters and chlorinators, adds chemicals to boiler as directed and monitors cooling water system. Maintains proper lubrication, air, water, and gas supply to all operating and standby equipment. Responsible for reporting any abnormal operating conditions to the Shift Supervisor. Performs minor mechanical maintenance on auxiliary equipment and reports such to the Shift Supervisor. Assists in the training of new personnel. Performs mechanical maintenance, E&I maintenance, or laboratory duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required.
Education and Experience: An Associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of one (1) year experience in power plant operations. Each additional two (2) years of directly related experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education. Knowledge of the principles of power plant operation, including the steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties is also preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees.
Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: This job requires a current driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent works a rotating shift schedule; relief shift schedule or irregular schedule as required and may be required to work overtime and on short notice. May also be required to travel on short notice. Incumbent must live within a fifty-mile radius of specified work location.
