Fuel Systems Operator

SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Fuel Systems Operator operates the plant fuel handling equipment in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. Functions include receiving, moving, and handling coal from the rail car to the pulverizer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Coordinates with and assists the Unit Operator in transfer of coal from the storage area to the bunkers to meet the plant fuel demand. Unloads unit trains and directs coal to designated areas via the coal conveying system. Operates on-site mobile equipment to build, maintain, reclaim, and blend coal stores according to system requirements, including proper contouring, compacting and performance of compaction tests. Performs operational inspections on all coal handling and conveying equipment. Keeps Unit Operator and Shift Supervisor informed of equipment condition and systems status. Performs minor maintenance and assigned preventive maintenance, enters, and monitors maintenance requests and performs follow up equipment checks. Isolates and tags out equipment as outlined in the plant safe clearance procedure. Assists in training operators in their area of responsibility. Cleans up spills and maintains systems and areas of responsibility in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Completes required report forms and makes daily log entries. Completes required training within established time frames. Assists in periodic functional tests.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required.
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience related to the operation of a coal fuel system, or a similar bulk material system is required. Experience should include the operation of heavy mobile equipment such as trucks, dozers and loaders, and stationary equipment such as conveyors, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Directly related education, including completion of on-site fuel system training or related formal technical training, may be substituted for experience at the rate of one (1) year of education for two (2) years of experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees.
Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: This job requires a current driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Requires working a rotating shift, scheduled and unscheduled overtime work, and call out work.
