Temporary University Intern - Research and Innovation

The Research and Innovation Department is currently seeking three interns. The Research and Innovation Department (R&I) conducts projects to promote the development and engagement of new technologies and innovative operations at Clean Water Services.

Essential Functions:
(The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. The District may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.)

  1. Position 1 will assist with assigned research projects, directed by senior personnel. Example projects include research on floating wetlands, testing of gas emissions from facilities, and support of sampling efforts. Work will be located at the Research, Innovation, Partnership and Laboratory (ripl) building in Forest Grove coupled with travel for sampling efforts. Experience with research involving lab-scale or pilot-scale reactors preferred.
  2. Position 2 will assist with genetic analysis of wastewater and surface waters using dd-PCR. Work will involve molecular analysis and will provide support for field sampling efforts. Knowledge of the application of modern molecular methods identifying bacteria and viruses preferred. Work will be located at the Research, Innovation, Partnership and Laboratory (ripl) building in Forest Grove.
  3. Position 3 will assist with stream study of the effectiveness of stream restoration in Dairy Creek, Washington County. Understanding of physical and biological stream processes and experience with field measurements of water quality and quantity preferred. Work will be located at the Administration Building (ABC) for CWS in Hillsboro.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

A current or recently graduated student with a Bachelor's Degree, or student working towards a Master's Degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, water resources, hydrogeology, environmental microbiology, or other related science.

Certification and Licensure:

Upon selection, candidate must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver's license.
