The role:  
Bring your planning skills to ODOT for a special project! After each decennial census, the Federal Highway Administration tasks state departments of transportation with reviewing and updating Federal Aid Urban Boundaries and the Federal Functional Classification for all public roads. This job posting is for temporary positions and does not include the typical benefits available for permanent employees. Temporary employees may be eligible for employee health benefits offered through the Public Employees Benefit Board (PEBB) as outlined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time and will not exceed six months or 1,040 hours.

A day in the life:

  • Review new requirements from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and fine tune project scope.
  • Work with the Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) and the League of Oregon Cities (LOC) to agree on and refine the project approach.
  • Create and share information and training materials.
  • Obtain FHWA approval of new federal aid urban boundaries and federal functional classification changes. Update corresponding map and data products.

What we need (temporary employees do not need to meet minimum qualifications; this is for informational purposes only):

  • Six (6) years of planning experience related to the job.
OR

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Social Science, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Geography or a related field.
AND

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible planning experience related to the job.

Note: A Master's Degree in Regional Planning, Public Administration, Social Science, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Geography or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

NOTE: Course work in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Social Science, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Geography or a related field can substitute for up to two (2) year of the progressively responsible experience.
