Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

Did you know that every U.S. Navy Sailor in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program is certified on an operating nuclear prototype before deployment to the fleet? At the Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, we are proud to support the U.S. Navy by operating one of the nuclear prototype training sites to qualify Sailors and test new technologies.

The Kenneth A. Kesselring Site’s Facilities organization in Ballston Spa, New York seeks an early career Mechanical Engineer to join our mission. Summary of Key Duties: In this role, you may...

Provide dedicated expertise in engineering, configuring, and operating mechanical systems including in-building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, or sprinklers as well as exterior systems such as water distribution, steam and condensate, compressed air, or sewer. 
Provide engineering solutions to technical issues by investigating requirements, troubleshooting, writing work documents, and developing specifications
Serve as a technical point of contact for project scoping, design reviews, construction support, commissioning, document and drawing reviews, and strategic infrastructure planning assessment
Perform tasks related to overall management and operations of facilities/infrastructure equipment, maintenance/repair, and construction
Apply engineering knowledge to assess current systems and provide engineering solutions to reduce risk and improve reliability, operating performance, and system efficiency
Coordinate with supporting site organizations representing Fire and Life Safety, Environmental Safety & Health, Maintenance and Operations, Security, outside vendors, etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS *

Associate:

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.

Intermediate:

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Driven and self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while simultaneously meeting stringent design, control, and operational standards.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Work, College, Project, or Intern experience in:

Engineering design, troubleshooting, and/or repair.
Reviewing, interpreting, and documenting comments on technical drawings and document.
The development of engineering documents (engineering analysis, technical specifications, functional requirements, cost estimates, drawings).
In regulatory requirements (examples: NYSDOH, NYSDEC, NFPA, etc.) and their applicability to facility and infrastructure systems.


Familiarity or experience with facility and infrastructure systems including operating systems such as water distribution, steam and condensate, compressed air and chemical processing and in-building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection sprinklers.
