Electrical Engineer, Facilities

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has an exciting career opportunity for a motivated Electrical Engineer to join our Facility Projects team at our Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory site in Niskayuna, NY! Our Knolls Laboratory is a world class research and development facility that supports the United States Nuclear Fleet with over 75 years of experience, committed to attracting and retaining the best employees. Our Facility Projects team works to support new construction and renovation of existing facilities located at the Knolls site. Typical projects include electrical system upgrades, facility renovations, and site infrastructure improvements. Project will range in construction cost from $100K to $5M.     

As an Electrical Engineer you could have the opportunity to:

Serve as the electrical technical lead for the Facility Projects team, complete electrical designs for facilities projects independently and oversee engineering firms throughout the project life cycle
Develop and define project technical specifications in close coordination with project sponsors 
Support peer engineers, including different disciplines, by providing electrical subject matter expertise for multiple facilities projects

REQUIRED SKILLS *

Intermediate:

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or SRE Qualification


Advanced:

BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or currently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRE

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering 
  • Experience performing engineering tasks as an electrical engineer from concept design through construction document closeout including development of construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates
  • Good working knowledge of National Electrical Code, Building Code of New York State and standards  
  • Experience in construction administration: requests for information and in-field observations
  • Knowledge of medium and low voltage distribution systems  
  • Short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact within a project team 
  • Excellent communication skills
