Are you an impact maker? Driven to improve yourself and others? Able to meet people and make friends? Do you desire to be a leader in your community? Then De Soto National Memorial is looking for you to be a part of our Leaders of Tomorrow program. We are an innovative and fast-paced unit of the National Park Service, looking for two Community Youth Ambassadors (18yrs+) to join our team over the summer and be actively involved in a wide variety of opportunities at the park and beyond. The selected participants will need to have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work effectively on important projects either independently or on a small team, and most importantly, a strong desire to work hard and have fun! Youth Ambassadors are responsible for: Identifying new partnership opportunities Supporting park staff with kayak and Junior Ranger programs Delivering and promoting fishing clinics for the community, developing interpretive exhibits for new museum displays, promoting park opportunities in the community, benefits include gaining invaluable experience with building/ leveraging partnerships; learning leadership skills; the opportunity to attend meetings and other networking opportunities and the ability to shadow multiple work disciplines. In this internship you also get to work in a pretty sweet location with nearby access to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, awesome natural spaces, world renown tourist attractions, sporting events, concert venues, and lots of great restaurants…. plus you get the National Park Service experience to put on applications and resumes!

Compensation Details:
  • $250 weekly Living Allowance
  • $1,110 one-time round-trip Travel Allowance
  • $900/month Housing Allowance
*All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.*

This position is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award of $2,417.14, received upon successful completion of this position. 

This position is eligible for Public Land Corp (PLC) hiring authority upon satisfactory completion of the internship. 

It is SCA’s policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the position’s start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the position’s start date will be delayed due to non-compliance. 

Conditions of Employment
Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants will be required to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined in SCA’s COVID Management plan, which can be found here.

Location Description
Bradenton is known as the “Friendly City” and De Soto National Memorial is located on the water in Southern Tampa Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Training Provided
This whole job is a training opportunity! Learning about the NPS and other organizations, park programs, customer service, and how to work on a team.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities
In addition to those provided at the park, Manatee County, which we are located, has a great park system and there are a number of excellent museums in the Bradenton-Sarasota area
