Staff Software Engineer

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a highly qualified Staff Software Engineer for the development of advanced algorithms for the Intelligence and Defense communities. Application areas include physics-based simulation and geometric modeling. The Software Engineer will provide multi-discipline support to our Air Force client.

Staff Software Engineer Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have an active interest in applying math, statistics, physics, or engineering concepts to solve multi-disciplinary problems. The candidate should be familiar with improving, optimizing, and tuning existing algorithms as well as developing new algorithms from scratch. This includes software design, software development, and debugging/issue resolution. The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem-solving and must be willing to actively participate in the evaluation of algorithm and system performance.

Staff Software Engineer Qualifications:
• Must currently hold an active TS clearance and have held a SCI within the last two years
• BS in Computer Science / Mathematics / Physics / Engineering along with 5-7 years experience
• Strong foundation in software development and experience with Python, Java, and/or C++
• Demonstrated experience going from problem statement to prototype to production-ready algorithms
• Team player with excellent presentation and written/oral communication skills

Staff Software Engineer Additional Desirable Qualifications:
• Active TS/SCI 
• Experience in cloud-based, parallel, or distributed computing
• Familiarity with software design patterns and modern C++
• Ability and desire to quickly learn new domains
• Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs
• Prior/existing security clearance

Experience
Required
• 5 - 7 years: Relevant work experience (i.e., including thesis, published research, and industry experience)

Education

• Bachelors or better in Computer Science or related field
