Senior Application Developer

CITY: Arlington

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

ARA’s Algorithms, Modeling, and Assessments Division (AMA) is seeking a Senior Application Developer to tackle tough problems and help the group grow into new and exciting businesses. The successful candidate will work with all levels of staff to develop software packages for desktop and web, work with management to seek out new opportunities for the group, and mentor junior staff to bring out the best in them.

A background in science or engineering is a must. The successful candidate will support all aspects of software development including design, implementation, and delivery. Software projects can range in size, from simple computational calculators to large, integrated modeling packages and web applications. The candidate will work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment. The candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in some projects including the design of software, a delegation of work to staff, and interfacing with clients on a routine basis. Additionally, they will bring marketing capability to the group to help grow the client base by extending existing tools, helping write proposals, and working across ARA to collaborate on new and exciting opportunities. You should enjoy collaborating with technical teams and be comfortable interacting directly with clients. Experience across a wide range of software languages and applications will suit the candidate well. The candidate should be independent, self-motivated, and eager to learn new skills. 

This position is open for remote work. 

What you’ll do as a Senior Application Developer:
• Work with teams to guide development of complex software from cradle to grave
• Develop mathematical/computational modeling software using a scripting language (e.g., Python, Perl, R) and a compiled language (e.g., C, C++, Java)
• Work with clients to give them updates, work on new features, and manage expectations
• Work with senior developers within a collaborative team environment and support cross-functional product development
• Work with your group leader to grow work and client base
• Work with junior staff to improve their programming skills

Senior Application Developer Position Requirements:
• Due to the work you’ll perform, you must be a US citizen and eligible to apply for and hold a US security clearance (selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment)
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field along with 7-9 years of relevant work experience 
• Demonstrated proficiency in application development
• Demonstrated capability in working with clients
• Demonstrated capability to mentor junior staff
• Willingness to learn new technologies as needed

Senior Application Developer Position Preferences:
• Active DoD security clearance is a strong plus
• Experience managing projects including system design, implementation, and delivery
• Experience working with junior staff
• Experience presenting software to clients including live demos
• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
• Marketing experience a plus
• Experience with software configuration management is a plus
