Seeking summer camp counselors for a unique seasonal employment opportunity at a residential summer therapy camp for children with disabilities in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Founded in 1934, Bay Cliff Health Camp is a non-profit facility who serves people with disabilities, located on the shores of Lake Superior in Big Bay, Michigan. Our main program is a 7 week comprehensive summer therapy camp for children with disabilities. About 150 children ranging in age from 3 to 17 years are referred to Bay Cliff for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, instruction for the hearing and visually impaired, and music therapy. Extensive recreation and camping activities provide the children with a well-rounded summer camp experience with all activities incorporating the children's therapy goals. Bay Cliff is a place where children learn to communicate better, pour their own milk, dress themselves, maneuver their wheelchair well, and even learn to walk. It’s all about the kids – building self-esteem, gaining independence, and leading a fuller life.
Our camp counselors are essential to our programming. They are responsible for the overall 24-hour care, safety, and well-being of the children in their cabin/unit. The number of campers assigned to a Cabin Counselor will vary between one and six, depending on the needs of the campers and the unit worked in. Roving Counselors work with all campers in the unit and are assigned to a cabin group within the unit when a Cabin Counselor has the day off, or as the need arises. The designation of Cabin Counselor or Roving Counselor is made during orientation week by the Unit Leader & Camp Administration.
Our counselors stay on camp for the summer, receiving free housing and meals, and an opportunity for networking, professional growth, and making a difference in the life of a child!
