Systems Engineer

ABOUT OUR COMPANY: AMS is a leading nuclear engineering services company in Knoxville, TN specializing in instrumentation and control (I&C) system testing, training, and services. We provide the worldwide nuclear industry with products and services to measure I&C performance and verify compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements. AMS products and services cover a wide range from in-situ measurement of dynamic performance of I&C sensors to rod control system diagnostics, digital I&C equipment qualification, wireless technology implementation for equipment condition monitoring, cable testing, management of aging of critical plant equipment, online calibration monitoring of process sensors, computer-aided testing, and development of specialized data acquisition equipment and data analysis algorithms in support of reactor operation and maintenance. POSITION TYPE: Full-time.

THE OPPORTUNITY: A Systems Engineer at AMS is someone who is passionate about software development, data analysis, and working towards common goals with technical teams. This engineer will shadow a senior engineering manager and other technical staff to help support other projects and R&D initiatives.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other relevant engineering field
  • 1-2 years relevant co-op or internship experience at minimum; preferred 2-3+ years job experience
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Passionate and resourceful attitude with strong time management skills
  • Strong technical writing and documentation review skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Shadow a senior engineering manager to develop technical expertise
  • Shadow technical staff members during testing and other lab activities to learn about proprietary equipment usage and data collection processes
  • Help support various R&D project efforts as needed including contributing content to proposals and grants, reviewing documentation, and providing technical support
  • Building tools to automate data collection and analysis
  • Create and deliver technical and nuclear industry presentations to industry professionals, customers, at conferences and events, etc.
  • Participate in travel 6 to 12 times per year for an average 4-day duration per trip to perform field service work
  • Evaluate data to discover trends and patterns to improve and automate analysis
  • Perform other work as assigned by company management
