Gas Design Engineering Internship (Summer 2022)

We are seeking students who are eager to learn, self-motivated and are comfortable working independently. This internship will make an impact! You will support and assist with real-life projects in our Gas Engineering department. These projects are designed to enhance your communication and teamwork skills, as you will be collaborating with individuals across all functions in our organization. You will work alongside professionals in your field, gaining in-depth knowledge about the energy industry and your chosen field of expertise. You will apply what you have learned in school to impactful projects within a publicly traded, multi-state utility and energy company. PAY:  $20 per hour (set by job function/department)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Gas Engineering

LOCATION: Council Bluffs, Iowa

  • Intern Relocation Adjustment Allowance of $1,000.00 is offered for the purpose of assisting with various expenses associated with your relocation for the internship (less applicable taxes and based on eligibility). Contents of our relocation program are subject to change and may vary based on position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College junior or above working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. If you are a recent graduate, you must be within 1 year of your graduation date. 
  • No experience required. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
  • Develop engineering skillsets including analyzing, planning, designing, and optimizing as applied to the company's existing and future gas processing, storage, transmission and distribution systems.
  • Develop skillsets in the application of engineering and project management solutions for corporate and operations business units.
  • Develop familiarity with safety and compliance standards, budgetary parameters, established scopes and associated timelines.
  • Develop and align with a commitment to maintain a high regard for personal safety and for the safety of company assets and employees.
  • Develops pipeline industry knowledge through interaction with senior engineering mentors.
  • Participation in the Company’s industry orientation experiences, which may include some travel and overnight stays. Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job includes: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
