Non-Profit (Human Resources) Intern (Remote or Hybrid)

About the Role: 
As a Non-Profit (HR) Intern, you will assist specifically in the Human Resources aspect of the organization where you will act as a liaison between the Executive Director and HR Department. The Intern may also assist the HR team, as needed, in areas of learning and development, recruitment and selection, employee engagement, talent and performance management, etc. via hands-on, on-the-job training. 

The Non-Profit (HR) Intern will receive direct supervision from the Executive Director under the Operations Department and will get the chance to work in a self-organized team setting under the Executive Committee while also working closely with the HR Manager. 
 
(Note: this is an unpaid internship role) 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Perform a variety of general administrative tasks (manage email and phone correspondence, maintain employee records, etc.) 
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and assist in keeping her up-to-date with any and all HR projects and general procedures 
  • Represent the Executive Director in HR department and/or committee meetings 
  • Stay organized and keep HR Manager updated on any and all projects assigned by Executive Director and/or Operations department 
  • Help in ensuring employee engagement and satisfaction in staff meetings, etc.  
  • Assist the Executive Director and HR Manager with processing of terminations, letters of recommendation, scheduling of check-ins and exit interviews, etc.   
  • Help in maintaining connections/partnerships with universities (representatives) and their career centers 
  • Assist in marketing strategy for staff recruitment and community engagement purposes 
  • Assist in the data collection and analysis of HR metrics (KPIs) and create reports to help Operations keep track of HR strategic goals  
  • Work with HR Manager to make sure all HR goals and initiatives align with overall Thaddeus business goals and mission/vision/values 
  • Partake in provided facilitation training and assist in facilitation of, including but not limited to, HR’s department and/or committee meeting(s) 
  • Participate in our Buddy system once assimilated and act as a mentor/point of contact for new interns transitioning into your team during their induction and onboarding process 
  • Perform other assigned duties, as needed 
 
Qualifications: 
Required:  
  • Be actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at a local University with a major in Human Resources, Psychology, or I/O Psychology (Junior or Senior level) with current GPA of 3.0 or above OR pursuing a graduate-level degree in Human Resource, I/O Psychology OR have equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 
  • Strong technical and organizational skills in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a professional environment 
  • A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality 
  • Excellent multi-tasking, time management, interpersonal communication, and business writing skills  
  • Ability to work independently with little instruction and a strong attention to detail  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) 
  • Access to appropriate technology and reliable Internet connection to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams 
Preferred:  
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 
  • Have some administrative and/or HR experience 
  • Experience working with non-profits 
  • Comfortable working with data and spreadsheets 
  • Prior knowledge of photo/video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.) and/or website maintenance experience  
  • Graphic design experience (making flyers/other marketing materials for recruitment purposes) 
  • Social media management experience (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and OneNote, 8x8 Work, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC) 
 
Learning Objectives: 
  • Intern will learn to utilize social media platforms to create an online presence for the organization, specifically for HR purposes 
  • Intern will learn to properly organize and file important employee documentation  
  • Intern will learn how to collaborate with a team to achieve organizational goals  
  • Intern will become familiar with the various HR functions behind a non-profit 
  • Intern will learn general knowledge of strategic planning and tracking HR goals 
  • Intern will learn to build rapport with supervisors and individuals from different departments 
  • Intern will learn tools and techniques to facilitate online meetings 
 
Time Commitment and Working Conditions: 
  • Due to COVID-19, the responsibilities for this role can be performed 100% remotely, on-site, or as a hybrid experience  
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week  
  • Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings: 
  • Weekly All Staff Meeting: Mondays 9 AM –10:30 AM PST 
  • Weekly Department Meeting: Fridays 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM PST 
  • Weekly Committee Meeting: Tuesdays 9 AM – 10:30 AM PST 
  • Must be able to commit to this 6-month to 1-year internship (accommodations can be made for school schedules, as well as exams) 

NOTE: As a Non-Profit (HR) intern, you will be asked to represent the Executive Director at one or more of the HR meetings throughout your internship - because of this, you should have somewhat of an open or flexible availability. You will also be asked to facilitate one of the other meetings once you have successfully completed your facilitation training. (If you have questions regarding this and the specific meeting times, please ask during the interview process)
