Magazine – Editor Training Internship - Winter Break 2021/2022

Magazine – Picture This Post EDITOR TRAINING Two-Week Intensive – Winter Break 2021/2022– 30 hours TOTAL – within a 10-21 day window – INTERNSHIP

Picture This Post magazine, www.picturethispost.com, alerts time-strapped readers to cultural offerings that are the best match for their interests in art, books, dance, film, museums, music, theater, as well as travel with a focus on culture. We not only cover culture creators and venues with high name recognition, but also delight in helping to showcase bold, creative strokes by fledgling artists in all genres.

Please Note: ALL Picture This Post editors and writers are volunteers—from top to bottom.
There is not a paid internship opportunity.

Applicants for a Winter 2022 Picture This Post EDITOR TRAINING Internship who complete this TWO -WEEK Intensive are short-listed for acceptance in a school semester or summer Preview Editor Internship.

If your school allows, the hours from this EDITOR TRAINING INTENSIVE will be applied to semester or summer internship requirements made by your school.

Supervision:

Amy Munice, Editor in Chief, will be the primary supervisor of your internship.  She is the co-publisher of the magazine, a 30+ year PR professional and freelance journalist, and cultural reporter who has penned many hundreds of articles.  She will be the author of your future reference for job hunting purposes.

You will be responsible for keeping a to-do list updated in real time, and a cumulative report- -which if possible, we would prefer you also share with your school internship supervisor.

Training sessions are held by zoom—usually in small groups—throughout the week and weekend.  Initially you will need to adapt your schedule in order to attend training sessions for your role in the soonest possible timeframe.  Once you have the prerequisite skills, you determine your schedule each week in order to meet your school’s hour requirements for your internship.

ALL VOLUNTEERS – ALL REMOTE WORKERS:

Picture This Post is an entirely volunteer organization, from top to bottom.  We are a not-for-profit (as opposed to a 501c3 non-profit) – too small to hire accountants etc. needed for non-profit status.  Students are like all volunteers EXCEPT that much time/energy goes into training students and helping you develop a portfolio for future job hunting.

JOB DUTIES/TRAINING:

Picture This Post presents preview articles in reverse pyramid journalistic style—adapting press releases to remove them of unattributed promotional content, and ensuring that our time-strapped readers find key information quickly. Your training will focus on how to discern fact vs. opinion and how to structure previews with readers in mind.

Also, Picture This Post presents interview articles as supplements to the review and preview content of the magazine. These interviews are conducted entirely by email, are lightly edited only such that artists can control their own narratives. Your training will be on sourcing interesting content for our readers and learning how to create interview frames and questions that underline interviewees’ gravitas and cultural contributions.

This two-week intensive can focus on previews and/or interviews—based on your interests.

The EDITOR TRAINING INTENSIVE also includes:

-training in layout

-access to our writer/editor communication system geared to accelerate your training

-your responsibility to write social media post language for your published story/s

At the conclusion of this EDITING INTENSIVE, you should have 10+ “inked” Previews to add to your resume and/or three interview articles. At the conclusion of this training you will have access to the self-assignment systems used by all editors of Picture This Post—i.e. choosing preview /interview content that most matches your personal interests.

This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in honing their journalist skills, and for initial exposure to how an online magazine works.
