Graphic Design Specialist

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a graphic design specialist for our State Office in Boise. This position provides graphic design and printing support services to DEQ staff to help optimize technical and non-technical information for diverse audiences.

Salary
$15.68 - $25.00 Hourly
$32,614.40 - $52,000.00 Annually
 
Example of Duties:

  • Design and direct multimedia content for technical and general audiences, including illustrative material, flowcharts, technical diagrams, videos, animations, social media graphics, posters, etc.
  • Work with a variety of technical and non-technical customers to understand graphic design needs, brainstorm ideas, and translate ideas into deliverables.
  • Ensure consistent look and feel of graphic designs and update as needed to keep content current.
  • Research, learn, and incorporate new graphic design and outreach tools, including ArcGIS StoryMaps, ArcGIS Experience Builder, Camtasia, Captivate, Canva, Tableau, Visio, , etc.
  • Edit graphical content using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Illustrator,, and other editing programs.
  • Support DEQ’s continuous improvement program through the development of visually engaging and interactive dashboards.
  • Coordinate with outreach staff to employ creative graphic design and marketing strategies to support DEQ’s community-level engagement efforts.
  • Assist outreach staff with creating, planning, and executing in-person and virtual outreach events.
  • Develop and maintain DEQ’s swag inventory and determine when and how to use swag to optimize community engagement.
  • Assist state and regional office staff on procurement of internal and external printing projects.
  • Develop content for State Office digital signage display, including job postings and air quality index.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of: computer graphic design techniques; design software.

Experience: conceptualizing ideas and translating into camera-ready copy or digitally equivalent pre-press work via computer and traditional methods; creating design proofs for customers to approve; advising customers on publication design, art work, multi-media projects, costs, and completion time.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes
  • Some travel may be required
