Entry Level Mechanical Engineer, Submarine Reactor Servicing

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for motivated engineers to join the Submarine Reactor Servicing team. This team develops and owns the tooling and procedures used for the new construction, maintenance, and end-of-life disassembly for nuclear reactors used to power US Navy submarines. In this role you will directly support day to day operations of the Naval shipyards carrying out this work through troubleshooting of equipment and procedures, local design and development of new and/or existing reactor servicing systems including equipment and associated operational procedures, and teaming with personnel across the Naval Reactors Program on a variety of improvement efforts or other challenges. This role will also offer the opportunity to travel to Naval shipyards and vendor sites in support of procurement efforts and operational assistance for end-users of the reactor servicing system. Specific work tasks include the performance of engineering evaluations and analyses, and using the outcome of these tasks to make informed engineering decisions regarding design attributes and field operations. Cognizant areas may include planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical components, systems and equipment and facilities. Work may include chemical or materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, safety analysis, engineering methods and software development, and analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.
