Sustainable Landscape Coordinator

Legal eligibility to be employed in the U.S. is required.
  • High school diploma (minimum)
  • 3-5 years experience or an associates/bachelors’ degree in landscaping, horticulture, environmental science or similar field.
  • A passion for the natural environment and working with people.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Zoom, Outlook email and web browsers.
  • Current driver’s license.
Initiative and Ingenuity

• Ability to design, plan and manage landscaping and develop schedules for landscape maintenance based on best practices.
• Creative ability to develop signage and educational materials

• Physical mobility: sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions.

Major responsibilities: Landscape Management – 50% / Educational Programming – 45% / Misc – 5%
Landscape Management – 50%
• Identify management challenges related to the Welcoming Place native plant communities and their long-term health.
• Monitor and reduce non-native vegetation and restore native plants in natural area locations across campus. This includes scouting, record keeping, removal and follow up care.
• Select tool and develop tracking and reporting method to monitor percentage of non-native, invasive plants on campus in relation to total plant biomass.
• Apply knowledge of botany, horticulture and/or natural resources to campus projects.
• Collaborate with maintenance staff to identify and implement groundskeeping practices that promote environmental well-being. Review and update schedules for landscape maintenance.
• Recruit and coordinate community volunteers to assist with landscape management and other campus-based environmental stewardship activities.

Educational Programming – 45%
• Create and improve educational signs and resources for use by campus visitors.
• Offer service-learning and identify opportunities to provide educational programming to local educators and students.
• Engage community members as appropriate to share knowledge and resources.
Other – 5%
• Work with Director of Administrative Services and Maintenance Coordinator to establish budget for landscape management and educational programming.
• Identify funding sources and opportunities to apply for grants to support potential campus projects and learning experiences.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
