Product Development Engineering Intern

This role is hybrid, flexible start dates and hours based on intern's school schedule.
 


Roles & Responsibilities

T Design and test innovative racking solutions for mounting solar modules
T Create test plans for structurally testing components
T Work with testing facilities to facilitate mechanical load testing
T Work with rapid prototyping companies to quickly determine design feasibility
T Create and maintain quality control documentation



Job Duties

T Take ownership of assigned projects through planning and development
T Produce drawings and quality documentation for new and existing products
T Coordinate testing of K2 products at various testing facilities
T Proactively gather required internal and external information to complete testing
T Work with engineering, training, and logistics teams to improve workspaces
T Using SolidWorks, design aluminum extrusions, metal stampings, or plastic injection-molded parts
T Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair prototyping equipment
T Conduct internal testing of new and existing products
T Write test and evaluation reports



Knowledge of

T Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in Physics, Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or equivalent Engineering degree
T Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
T Beginner/Intermediate knowledge of SolidWorks, Catia, or PTC Creo preferred
T 6+ months’ (or one semester) experience with mechanical lab testing preferred
T Proficiency in English required



Ability to

T Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
T Maintain records and prepare reports
T Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
T Meet schedules and timelines



Desired Skills

T Basic knowledge of building codes and the solar industry
T Experience with creating physical prototypes



Physical Demands

T Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking;
T Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching;
T Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing;
T Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations;
T Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds;
T Requires activities involving being at customer sites, construction sites, moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
