Research Technician I

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, located on Long Island, New York, is seeking candidates for an immediate opening for a Research Technician in the Egeblad Lab (http://egebladlab.labsites.cshl.edu/). The Egeblad lab studies the role of the microenvironment in cancer metastasis and therapy resistance using mouse models and intravital imaging.

The lab technician will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the main responsibility will be to manage the lab’s large animal colony, including managing breedings, tracking all animals, genotyping, measuring tumor growth, and assigning animals to specific investigators within the lab.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for: ensuring that the lab is well stocked with the necessary supplies and reagents, coordinating the purchasing of reagents with the Purchasing Department, as well as the maintenance of equipment with the Facilities Department.

Additional responsibilities may include: performing standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures; staining tissue section slides using standard techniques; performing assays for protein, RNA or DNA; and dissociation of mouse tissues and tumor.
Education: BS/BA in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry or related life science discipline is required.

Skills and experience: Experience in any of the following techniques would be advantageous: working with mice (including handling, colony maintenance, and record keeping), basic molecular biology techniques, cell culture work, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy. The candidate should be willing to commit at least 2 years to this position, and possess excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills; the willingness and ability to work independently and take initiative; and a strong sense of integrity.
